Change the world

The South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF) is a collaboration between 36 universities in Sweden and South Africa, including embassies, ministries, civil society organisations and funding agencies from both countries.

Nelson Mandela University, as a proud collaborator in the SASUF project, hosted a research symposium at various venues on campus this year. Representatives from the various universities, as well as the Department of Human Settlements were present to deliver research papers and address delegates on topics surrounding urban planning and development, and possibilities for improved and sustainable housing.

The project, which begun in 2017, was conceptualised with the overall aim of strengthening ties between Sweden and South Africa in research, education and innovation.

The symposium allowed for researchers, students and organizations to exchange ideas, engage in debate, and explore further collaborative initiatives. The project will run until 2020 and hopes to achieve great headway in finding solutions for sustainable development for the future.
